Gorey
GOREY CASTLE
The main attraction in Gorey or indeed perhaps in Jersey, is Mont Orgueil. Gorey Castle, as it is known locally, was built in the 13th century as the main defence against the French whose coastline was only 14 miles away.
You can walk all the way through the castle- entrance fee payable– and get a fantastic view from the top looking down at the quaint fishing harbour below and over Grouville Bay, home to Jersey Oysters. On a clear day you can see the coast of France.
GOREY HARBOUR
A small harbour, at the foot of the castle, lined by bars, cafes, and restaurants with outdoor dining.
GOREY VILLAGE
A short walk from the harbour is Gorey Village, there are lots of pretty old fisherman’s cottages here as well as some local cafes and shops. From here it is a very short walk to the sandy Grouville Bay.
RESTAURANTS IN GOREY
An old Jersey favourite, The Moorings Hotel & Restaurant, has been refurbished and has outdoor seating for summer dining and a roaring fire in winter. In the summer, the local oysters and scallops are always in high demand, and in winter, it’s a very popular Sunday Lunch spot for locals.
Sumas Restaurant is a small, well-established seafood restaurant with a terrace that provides a lovely view of the harbour and castle.
Spice View serves amazing Indian/ Bangladeshi dishes with a fantastic view of the castle, harbour, and Long Beach.
The Bass & Lobster serves Modern- European bistro-style food in an open-plan setting with a terrace for al fresco dining.
The Kitchen is the place in Gorey Village for a great breakfast at great prices!
